The Voice that cries from the wilderness
For a time such as this
It all starts with those visions. Those ideas and what ifs. The things that make our heart beat. The things that wont go away no matter how much time passes and what comes and goes. The calling. The things that keep you going and up at night. The things that feel like purpose. We all have it. Some answer the call sooner than others. Some never answer it at all. Then they're those who do and they come with something from another reality;like they are meant to be here. Does this sound familiar chosen one?
Hailing from the sidewalks and alleys of Baltimore City is one who has been guided here. Unmatched Voice; the voice that cries out from the wilderness of the city, "Make straight the way of the Lord." Born Preston Boyd Jr, January 18th 1990, Voice was always a set a part soul. Raised in a single parent home by his dearly departed mother Felecia Artis, Voice learned much about faith, sharing, kindness, and chivalry. Starting at Windsor Hills elementary he soon became an academic prodigy with almost saintly virtue and character. He never quite fit in with any crowd but could adapt to any as well. Voice grew fond of all the classes he had and eventually received Ben Carson scholarship towards his future education. However,It was at this school that another love would find him.
At the time, Cash Money records had become a force within the music world with artist like Lil Wayne, Juvenile, and Mannie Fresh. Voice at the time was aware of the music scene not only because of a social life at school but his mother also was big into hip-hop and r&b. It wasn't until his friendship with Brandin Stackhouse ,who are still friend until this day, introduced him to rapping. Him and other friends made their own rap group and it was then that hip-hop found Voice. Before this point , he never considered music and had no inspiration. At the time his rap name was Shorty By Nature and then JR P and he began to realize the fun and power that came from becoming an MC as others became aware at school.
Time passes and Voice eventually graduates from elementary school into Roland Park middle school where the love to learn as a student remained but also the love for hip-hop. Still very short in stature , his rap alias changed but reflected that as Leprechaun. Known for his mind bending witty punchlines, Leprechaun became one of the best rappers in the school and was also known for battle rap.
Time continues to move on and Voice,Leprechaun at the time, graduates middle school and makes his way to Baltimore Polytechnic Institute; a school well known for it's academic programs and only enrolling the brightest students. The love for school was still there but was increasingly being challenged by the struggles of being a melinated teenage boy without a father in Baltimore City. It was during these years that Voice joined the gang banging life and became more with the street life. But as you may have guessed , hip-hop was still there and was now becoming a support system. Voice did his first major performance during this time with the school based group "The Floetic Lyricists" at the annual showcase and made a memory that some still remember. At home , he blended the instrumentals of Lloyd's "Southside" , Snoop Dogg's " Murder Was the Case" ,and Lil Scrappy's "Money In The Bank" to create a master piece titled "The Butterfly Effect." Inspired by the movie starring Ashton Kutcher, he illustrated what life was looking like for him at the time; a crossroads of either letting the pain of poverty and the murdering of his childhood friend Whitney Wiley lead him down the dark path into Baltimore City's streets or to overcome and be victorious by remaining true to self. It was here that he had another name change as Priest.
Priest remained his name for many years and eventually added "Unmatched" to it after forming the group Unmatched Spittas with Fif And AGZ in 2014. It was from then on that they became a rising powerhouse in the city and debuted their freshman mixtape "Rise To Power" on Datpiff in 2015. The name Unmatched Priest remained his alias until 2024 where he finalized his journey of knowledge of self and realized his voice is his strength purpose ultimately becoming Unmatched Voice.
Voice is a father of three.Naomi,Nasir, and Messiah and is still a Baltimore City resident at the age of 36. Don't let the age fool you , Voice can still rhyme with the best of them with catchy punchlines and complex rhyme cadences and flows. Expect more to come.
